You must know the weight loss facts if you want to lose weight. It's that simple.

Let’s face it. There’s a ton of diet information out there. Much of it is hype and MYTH. That is why you may have tried everything from diet books to diet pills to ab toners and still have those extra pounds.

Even if the weight came off initially, you probably have put it back on, plus some extra pounds. That’s because many diet plans do NOT promote healthy weight loss.

Read these EIGHT WEIGHT LOSS FACTS that will help you shed the pounds and keep them off permanently:

1. It will take time. Our culture revolves around the “give-it-to-me-now” mentality. Contrary to the claims of many popular diets and weight loss methods, healthy weight loss usually means 1-2 pounds per week.

This is one of the most forgotten weight loss facts when someone sets out to lose weight. You can actually do significant harm if you neglect this fact and try to lose weight too quickly.

Since you want to lose FAT and not lean muscle mass, you need to lose it at a slow, steady pace. This is the kind of weight loss that is more likely to stay off!

2. It doesn’t take perfection, but it does take commitment. A lot of weight loss is mental. Once you get to the place where you have decided that you want to (or have to) do it for YOU, you are much more likely to have the determination to lose it the healthy way. You will have “good” and “bad” days, but you must be committed to not give up.

3. Meals MUST NOT be skipped – especially breakfast. A very common misconception is that skipping meals will help with weight loss. Skipping meals is just a setup for a sluggish metabolism and a revved up appetite.

Of all the weight loss facts this one may be the most misunderstood. We tend to think if we're hungry we must be losing weight. This is a myth. You need to properly feed your body if want to lose fat.

4. Food must be viewed as FUEL for your body. Our bodies must have food to survive, and often we do more than just survive. We have so many emotional attachments to food, so we eat when we’re happy, sad, and stressed. In order to successfully lose weight, you must see food as a fuel that can help you feel and look better—when the right foods are chosen.

5. Fruits and veggies are essential.> The reasons you should eat your fruits and vegetables go far beyond “because your mama told you so.” Packed with cancer-preventing antioxidants and phytonutrients, these fiber-filled foods can aid in weight loss due to the full feeling you receive paired with their low calorie level.

6. Keep a food diary. People who write down everything they eat are usually more successful at losing weight and keeping it off. Why? Because they are conscious of everything entering their mouth! When you start writing it down, you realize how much you actually eat.

You realize that handful of M&M’s resulted in many more calories than you thought. You realize that you drink a lot of calories when you choose a soft drink instead of water. Writing down what and when you eat and drink can be a great tool for weight loss.

7. Meals and snacks need to be balanced. Often, we grab a bagel or granola bar on the way out of the house in the morning. So why do we feel that mid-morning slump? We NEED protein!

Think of every meal and every snack as an opportunity to get carbohydrates AND protein. This will result in less of a dip in blood sugar, preventing overeating later.

8. Never give up! When you lose five pounds and then gain 2 back, do NOT give up. When you pig out on chocolate and feel terrible later, do not give up. One thing is for sure…you will NOT lose the weight if you give up!

This is one of the critical weight loss facts. Many people give up just as their body is about to shed the extra pounds.
