Motivational Thought

A motivational thought has the power to move you from the paralysis of despair. This might be a quote you have placed on your desk or refrigerator (below you will find the one on my refrigerator). It might be a famous quote or your own words.

Words are powerful.

Anxiety is a major problem in our culture today. Anxiety medications are the most prescribed of all drugs. Various treatment modalities are used in treating anxiety. Here is an ancient proverbial prescription:

An anxious heart weighs a man down
but a kind word cheers him up.

Proverbs 12.25

Yes, words have the power to lift us up. If you have just suffered a major financial loss, a motivational thought can come in the kind words of Albert Einstein:

Not everything that can be counted counts,
and not everything that counts
can be counted.

You may find it helpful to carry a powerful motivational thought with you through the day. A helpful practice is to write the words on a card and carry it in your pocket. Throughout the day you can pull it out and find great motivation.

For centuries many have found strength and the power to keep moving forward in life through these words from the great Apostle Paul:

I can do everything
through Him
who gives me strength.

The amazing power of words is mentioned in another ancient proverb:

The tongue has the power of life and death.

Allow positive words to form a positive thought that is personalized for you. Internalize these words and allow them to prompt you to positive action. Positive thinking must always produce positive action.

Don’t underestimate the power of words to make a difference in your life.

Daniel Pink has written the book, Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us. Here are some reviews:

"Pink's ideas deserve a wide hearing. Corporate boards, in fact, could do well by kicking out their pay consultants for an hour and reading Pink's conclusions instead."-Forbes

"Pink's deft traversal of research at the intersection of psychology and economics make this a worthwhile read-no sticks necessary."-SEED

"[Pink] continues his engaging exploration of how we work."-Inc. Magazine

"Pink's a gifted writer who turns even the heaviest scientific study into something digestible-and often amusing-without losing his intellectual punch."-New York Post

"A worthwhile read. It reminds us that those of us on the right side of the brain are driven furthest and fastest in pursuit of what we love."-Minneapolis Star Tribune

"Pink's analysis--and new model--of motivation offers tremendous insight into our deepest nature."-Publishers Weekly

"Important reading...an integral addition to a growing body of literature that argues for a radical shift in how businesses operate."-Kirkus

"Drive is the rare book that will get you to think and inspire you to act. Pink makes a strong, science-based case for rethinking motivation--and then provides the tools you need to transform your life."-Dr. Mehmet Oz, co-author of YOU: The Owners Manual
