  • Jump off your crash diet. If you are on a diet that severely restricts your calorie intake you must get off it immediately. These starvation diets take off fluid and muscle but not belly fat. These diets promote a cycle of failure that ultimately leads to giving up entirely on losing weight.

    The following diet motivation tips will be totally ineffective as long as you are on a crash diet. This is one of the most harmful things you can do for your health and wellness.

    In fact, the first step in wellness coaching for some people is convincing them that these diets are more harmful than helpful.

  • Write your goals down. Make a list of your health and fitness goals. Write out your specific weight loss goal. Refer to these daily for maximizing motivation to stay on track.

    Make sure you have some long term and short term goals. Remember that setting reasonable goals is essential.

  • Read good diet, nutrition, and fitness books. Taking in good information will keep you motivated. Just make sure that you’re not reading a lot of hype.

  • Drink plenty of water. There are many benefits to drinking water. You will stay more alert and energetic. Drinking water will also give you a full stomach feeling and keep you from overeating.

  • Keep a food journal. Writing down everything you eat is absolutely one of the best things you can do to keep your diet on track. You will eat less and more healthy. You’ve got to try this one!

  • Start your day with lean protein. Starting your day with only a granola bar or bagel is not the best way to burn that extra belly fat. You will find that hunger creeps in after an hour or two and you stay hungry all day. You need some lean protein to start the day.

    Many people find it easier to drink a shake with whey protein in the morning. You can make this nutritious and filling to start your day.

  • Write down your most motivating goal and keep it in a prominent place. I used this once to lose 2” from my waist. I wrote the waist size goal on a 3 X 5 card and posted it on the bathroom mirror. I was constantly seeing this number.

    This diet motivation tip kept me exercising and eating right. The inches melted off after a couple of months and I set the next goal. Don’t underestimate the power of this simple tip.
