Belly Fat Loss

belly fat loss

Belly fat loss will only take place when you create a calorie deficit. Most people make the mistake of thinking that they will lose belly fat fast if they do hundreds of crunches and sit-ups everyday. It simply won’t happen.

Abdominal exercises such as ab crunches will strengthen and develop your abdominal muscles but will not significantly contribute to a calorie deficit. You might think you will develop washboard abs with crunches but those ab muscles will remain hidden beneath your excess belly fat.

"Belly fat loss occurs with one of three methods that create a calorie deficit."

1. Cutting calories. Don’t make the mistake of going on a 1000 calorie/day diet. That’s too drastic. You’ll lose some weight but gain it back because you won’t be able to sustain the low calorie intake.

There’s a better way to cut calories. Learn how to maximize your ability to burn belly fat by making moderate reductions in your calorie intake.

2. Increasing exercise. This will burn more calories and therefore create more of a calorie deficit. Don’t fall into the trap, however, of eating more when you exercise. The more you exercise the more hungry you will get. Sometimes people will actually start eating more calories than they burn.

3. Cutting calories and increasing exercise. This is the best approach. By moderately cutting calories and incrementally increasing the time you exercise you will burn belly fat and eventually see your flat abs.

" Belly fat loss as you can see is very sensitive to calories. Both the number you consume and the number you burn are critical to your success in losing belly fat."

There are many formulas for determining your daily calorie needs. Here is a quick method that is based on your total bodyweight. There are more sophisticated ways of doing this but this one is pretty accurate.

Fat loss = 12-13 calories per lb. of bodyweightMaintenance = 15-16 calories per lb. of bodyweightWeight gain = 18-20 calories per lb. of bodyweight

Obviously this doesn’t take into account your activity level. If you are very active this formula will underestimate your calorie requirements. If you want to learn the details of counting calories for belly fat loss click here.

Tom Venuto has written an incredibly extensive book on belly fat loss. You simply can’t get more information on this topic. There’s no hype and he guarantees your complete satisfaction If you would like to know more click here.
