Abs Exercise Ball

Do They Work?

abs exercise ball

The abs exercise ball is a fantastic piece of exercise equipment. The advantages include:

  • Inexpensive
  • Safe
  • Easy to use
  • Small size
  • Versatile

It is especially popular today for working the core muscles of the back and abdominal region. The ball can be used alone or in conjunction with other pieces of exercise equipment such as dumbbells, exercise bands, and weight machines.

The question you should ask yourself before performing any exercises is, “What am I trying to accomplish during my exercise session?” It is not uncommon for someone to choose the incorrect exercise to accomplish their goal.

For example, you would not want to choose jogging to build your leg muscles. Jogging will only minimally develop the muscles of the legs.

That is the problem with the abs exercise ball. Most people believe they will burn belly fat by doing crunches on the ball. You can do dozens of crunches each week on the ball and you will not burn belly fat.

But, you say, “my belly burns when I do crunches.” That isn’t fat burning, it is your abdominal muscles being worked. Crunches will help build your abdominal muscles but they will not help you lose belly fat.

I’ve seen many people in the gym doing crunches regularly each week but they never lose their belly fat. These people have great intentions and workout very diligently each week. But they never see the flat abs they desire.

Losing belly fat isn’t easy so don’t believe the marketing hype that says it is. Part of the marketing hype is that calories don’t count. This idea was promoted in 1961 by Dr. Herman Taller in his book, Calories Don’t Count. Many fad diets have come and gone since then that have fueled this fallacy. One of the most popular has been the Atkin’s Diet.

The idea behind these diets is that if you remove most or all carbohydrates, you can then eat all the protein and fat that you want. So everyone was eating beef and cheese and doing crunches on their abs exercise ball and hoping to get flat abs.

"Knowing what you know about your calorie balance system, you can appreciate that claiming ‘calories don’t count’ is utterly ridiculous."
- Dr. Lawrence Lamb, Author of The Weighting Game

These “calories-don’t count” fad diets claim that if you eat certain foods or combinations of foods, you can eat as much as you want and you will still burn belly fat. This is physiologically impossible. So why are these diets so popular?

For the same reason that people think doing a few crunches on their abs exercise ball will give them flat abs. We all want the easy way. We don’t want to give up anything, especially a few calories every day.

On the other hand, if you cut too many calories you will cause your body to hang on tenaciously to belly fat. There is a delicate balance, the law of energy balance, that must be maintained if you want to be successful in losing belly fat.

When you understand and implement this daily calorie balance you will then start losing belly fat. This is when an abs exercise ball can be most effective. You are burning belly fat and now you can strengthen and develop your abdominal muscles.

Tom Venuto explains the law of energy balance in detail beginning on page 102 of his best selling ebook, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. Tom offers a money-back guarantee if you aren’t completely satisfied with the book.

There is no hype in this book. It really is for people who are absolutely serious about losing belly fat and getting flat abs. If you are looking for quick and easy DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK.

But if you are tired of all the marketing hype found in the fad diets and are ready for the most reliable and scientific information available, BUY THIS BOOK.

Before you go out and buy an abs exercise ball you must know how to receive maximum benefit from it. Tom will guide you through your journey of nutrition and exercise all the way to flat abs. Check it out here.
